How To Refresh Your Mind Quickly
Find yourself yawning throughout the day? Or unable to think straight? Well, you probably need a quick refresh!
Why Clarity Is Important In Life
Working under pressure every day may have become the new normal. However, allowing it to affect your personal and professional life is not the only option.
You must understand that just like a cluttered workstation, a cluttered mind can make your job even more difficult.
Even your brain needs a break from the daily grind, just as your body requires a vacation to unplug from the stresses of everyday life.
Taking some time off (in the form of little breaks) for yourself will help you hit the reset button on your brain. These frequent breaks will provide you mental clarity, rejuvenate your thoughts, and allow you to work with more energy.
Here are some advantages of having a clear mind:
It helps you overcome self-doubt.
It enhances your decision-making skills.
Organizing and prioritizing becomes easier.
It improves your memory and learning ability.
So, in this post, I've compiled a list of the best ways to recharge your batteries, regardless of your situation.
How To Refresh Your Mind
Whether you're stressed, finding it difficult to focus at work, or constantly making silly mistakes, here's how to refresh your mind in 13 ways.
1. Meditate
You may already know that even a few minutes spent meditating will help you restore your inner peace. Aside from reducing stress and anxiety, meditating produces a profound sense of relaxation that benefits your emotional well-being and helps you refresh your mind.
As it eliminates all the distractions that cause you to worry, you can carry on more peacefully throughout the day.
There are a variety of meditation techniques and exercises that make you feel less anxious. Some popular ways include mindfulness meditation, guided meditation, and yoga.
However, you don't have to be a pro at it. Anyone can practice this simple and inexpensive activity, regardless of the place (or position).
If you're starting out, deep breathing is perfect for beginners. But you can also try body scanning meditation (to become aware of your bodily sensations) or repeating a mantra.
2. Drink Water (or other healthy fluids)
Dehydration takes place when your body does not have enough water to function effectively. The most common cause of dehydration is headache. Aside from that, not only your mood but your performance is also affected.
Since your brain is partly made up of water, insufficient water intake can enormously affect the functioning of your brain.
The good thing is that rehydrating your body with fluids and electrolyte drinks will mitigate the effects of dehydration on the brain.
3. Grab a Healthy Snack
Whether you are fighting the midday slump, need an energy boost, or want to curb your cravings, eating healthy snacks will help you get through the day.
Snack on fruits or Greek yogurt to energize your afternoons, or keep a healthy trail mix on your desk for a quick bite. These will surely refresh your mood and improve your mental output.
4. Listen To Relaxing Music
When your brain is under unnecessary stress, slow-tempo music can be your go-to remedy!
Listening to soothing, soft music is a therapeutic way to put you in a good mood and provide some refreshment. Aside from reducing stress and anxiety, it makes your time spent listening to music even more pleasurable.
5. Brain Dump
Brain dumping is a journaling activity that involves writing down everything that comes to your mind about a particular topic.
The ultimate goal of this exercise is to free up your mental space by putting all your thoughts on a piece of paper. It not only promotes self-awareness but also provides some mental clarity to help you organize your thoughts better.
6. Drink Tea or Coffee
There is a reason why most people (including myself) have trouble starting their day without a cup of tea or coffee. It has now become a part of the universal morning routine. Especially when you are dealing with the Monday blues!
So, grab your favorite brain-boosting beverage for a quick refreshment to improve alertness, focus better, and boost your mood.
Whether you enjoy tea or coffee, you must limit yourself to no more than 2 to 3 cups each day.
7. Take a Walk Outside In Nature
Your brain activity decreases when your body is at rest. That's why, whenever you feel (mentally) stuck, you must try to change your surroundings.
And nothing beats the combination of fresh air and physical activity to clear your head. Even a few minutes spent outside will boost your mental health.
8. Stretch Out
Are you trapped in a sedentary lifestyle? Regardless of how bad it is, the truth is that most of us have to sit at our desks for work.
Sedentary behavior might be your reality too, but that does not mean you can't do anything about it. There are ways to fix this unhealthy behavior, and one of my favorite ways is stretching.
Stretching after sitting for an extended period will help you reduce stiffness. Apart from making you feel good, stretching out helps you -
increase your flexibility,
calm your mind,
improve your posture,
promote blood flow throughout the body and
keep your stress levels in control.
Stretching out (even for 15 minutes) will not only make you feel refreshed but will increase your energy levels as well.
9. Take a Social Media Detox
Is social media consuming your life?
While social media platforms may have certain advantages, using them too much can make you feel miserable and lonely in the long run.
When used irresponsibly, it causes unhappiness and leads to the rise of mental health issues. Distractions at work, FOMO, comparison, anxiety, and depression are the most common problems caused by excessive social media consumption.
If you've noticed any of these, it's time to go on a social media detox!
It will not only help you manage these issues, but unplugging from social media will also help you focus better, improve your sleep habits, save time, and enhance your overall lifestyle.

10. Take a Nap
Does your company allow you to take a snooze whenever you need one? Or, perhaps, are you your own boss? Then, you'll enjoy the idea of 'taking a nap' to refresh your mind.
Because nothing recharges your overall body and mind like a power nap!
Daily power naps provide your brain the much-needed rest it requires to enhance your performance, sharpen your cognitive skills, revive alertness, encourage creativity, and increase your energy levels.
11. Connect With Others
As humans, we're social beings. No matter how introverted you are, connecting with others (on a physical and emotional level) can improve your health. On the other hand, a lack of social connection and support may result in poor mental health.
Real human connection comes from the sense of belonging; that you experience through interactions with others. So, when you talk to others, you feel heard and valued, creating a human connection.
And people who feel more connected to others experience less anxiety and depression.
12. Try Aromatherapy
While aromatherapy products may make your personal space smell good, their benefits go way beyond that.
Essential oils are well-known for their use in aromatherapy. Some can help you reduce anxiety, relieve pain, relax and sleep better, enhance your mood, re-energize, improve concentration, and more.
There are multiple ways to use these calming oils through inhalation or topical application. You can -
diffuse essential oils in a diffuser,
roll them directly on your skin,
light an aromatherapy candle, or
consume them orally through teas or supplements.
Just put a refreshing essential oil (or essential oil blend with scents like citrus, eucalyptus, or rosemary) in a diffuser on your desk to regain energy.
13. Eliminate Clutter On Your Desk
You finished purging your mind, yet it still doesn't feel right? Perhaps the clutter in your mind isn't the issue here.
It is probably the cluttered surfaces, misplaced documents, and the never-ending search for stationery items!
Sometimes the clutter in your mind can be fueled by the physical clutter on your desk. So, if your messy desk is responsible for your stress, it's time to declutter and organize the desk before it worsens.
Clutter-free surroundings will let you be more productive and creative throughout the day, making you more efficient at work.
