What are Affirmations

Affirmations are phrases that can help you to transform your mindset and, eventually, your life for the better. Repeating affirmations is a technique for practicing positive thinking by intentionally choosing the appropriate words and statements.

How to Use Affirmations

Affirmations can significantly improve the quality of your life. The affirmation words and phrases that you practice today will help you produce desirable results in the future.

So, what are affirmations used for?

Affirmations are used for two primary purposes:

  • To shift your mindset from negative to positives.

  • To get rid of anything toxic from your life while simultaneously creating something pleasurable.

They are not, however, magical spells. You can't just affirm that you'll improve in your career and then sit back and wait for the magic to happen. It doesn't even make sense.

How would your life improve if you didn't follow through on your affirmations in the first place?! If you're expecting things to happen without putting in the effort. Then let me tell you that affirmations do not work like that.

How to Make Affirmations Work

As part of this hustle culture, we're all obsessed with speedy downloads, quick recipes, 5-minute self-care activities, and faster results in merely everything we do.

But, how to make affirmations work faster? How long does it take for affirmations to work?

Saying an affirmation once a day and then grumbling for the rest of the day is a no-no. It will take a long time to work this way.

The KEY is to maintain consistency. Repeating affirmation daily and taking appropriate actions regularly also matters.

The more you choose to think positively, the faster your affirmations will work. So, think good thoughts to yield positive outcomes in your life.

Negative thinking, on the other hand, is a roadblock to positive affirmations. One negative thought will lead to another, creating a never-ending chain of dark thoughts. But how can you think optimistic thoughts while you're constantly surrounded by negativity?

How to Deal with Negative Thoughts

At times, when you've hit rock bottom, you may say things like "Life totally sucks" or "Such is life."

However, it is your thinking, not your life, that seems to be the source of your ongoing misery. So, how can you overcome these negative thoughts?

  • Primarily, the more you think about or discuss a matter, the more it triggers. As a result, avoid thinking or talking about it repeatedly.

  • Secondly, quit blaming others and take charge of your life.

  • Thirdly, develop the ability to change your negative thoughts and affirmations to positive ones. It's not easy, but it's certainly doable!

Here's an example of how to go about it:

  • Negative thought: I am a mess and totally incompetent.

Positive thought: I am unique and proud of who I am.

  • Negative thought: I hate my appearance.

Positive thought: I admire and value my body.

Simply pay attention to your thoughts. If you catch yourself thinking about something negative, REPLACE it with something pleasant right away. You must get rid of thoughts with negative emotions such as jealousy, hatred, regret, anger, and blame, among others.

Once you replace negative thoughts with positive ones, you’ll start having positive results.

How to Write Affirmations

Here are a few things to keep in mind when writing your affirmations:

  1. Start with identifying the aspects of your life in which you wish to make positive changes. Then write your affirmation accordingly.

  2. Affirmations often begin with the phrases I AM, I HAVE, or I WILL. You must, however, avoid starting it with I WANT TO or I WILL TRY. They don't appear to be firm.

  3. Maintain the present tense in your affirmation.

  4. Make sure your affirmations are realistic and sensible.

  5. Also, include the negative thoughts you wish to get rid of and replace them with positive ones (as I explained above).

  6. Write them down clearly without the contractions (i.e., instead of I'm, use I am). So that they sound more powerful than your natural tone.

Your affirmations should reflect your ultimate purpose, even if they are expressed in the present tense. Like, where you wish to be in the future and not where you are now.

Also, don't forget to repeat your affirmations with passion.

See the things that you want as already yours.
— Rhonda Byrne

Examples of Affirmations

Here are 10 examples of affirmations to help you create your own.

  • I have everything I need in life.

  • I am open to new experiences and opportunities for growth.

  • I am successful in all I attempt.

  • I am pleased with myself.

  • I take care of my mind, body, and soul.

  • I am both competent and beautiful.

  • I am happy with my accomplishments.

  • My past no longer matters. I am living in the present.

  • I am in good health and have a lot of happiness in my life.

  • I am deserving of love.

The best time to practice positive affirmations is in the early morning or before going to bed. As a result, you can incorporate this habit into your morning or bedtime routine.

However, you can recite your affirmations aloud in front of a mirror, while driving, or whenever you feel surrounded by negative thoughts. They work anywhere, at any time.

I hope this post has helped you understand what are affirmations and how to use them appropriately. So, create your own affirmations that are unique to you and your goals.
