What is a Vision Board

A vision board (also known as a dream board or goal board) is a powerful visualization tool that includes a compilation of images, quotes, and words associated with the lifestyle you aspire to live. It can be in a physical or digital form.

A physical vision board can be displayed wherever you can see it on a regular basis. A digital vision board, on the other hand, can serve as the background for your laptop or phone's home screen.

Making a vision board of your yearly goals or dream life encourages you to take the necessary steps to make it a reality. You can make a goal-setting vision board that focuses on a particular aspect of your life, a yearly board that focuses on multiple areas, or one that provides a big picture of your ideal life.

Why Vision Boards Work

Here are some benefits of creating a vision board:

  • It helps you understand your desires more clearly.

  • Looking regularly at the things you want inspires you to work harder to achieve them.

  • It doesn't let you distract from your goals.

  • A vision board boosts your confidence as you take smaller steps toward your goals.

How To Create A Goal-Setting Vision Board

Step 1: Choose a Category and the Time Frame

Go through the vision board categories and determine which area of your life to emphasize. What will your vision board be about?

It could be career goals, fitness goals, spiritual goals, traveling goals, relationship goals, educational goals, financial goals, or a general all-in-one vision board. I prefer an all-in-one board that gives me a bigger picture.

Also, consider the time frame beforehand; so you will have a deadline.

Step 2: Engage in Self-Reflection

Whether you want to create a goal-setting vision board or any other, learning about your goals through a short self-discovery session is crucial.

So, grab a pen and paper. And start asking yourself these self-reflection questions to discover what you TRULY desire in life.

Ask yourself each of the questions below one by one, write down what comes to your mind, and skip what doesn't resonate with you. By the end of this session, you'll have a clear idea of your goals and desires in life.

  • What do I want to accomplish by the end of this year?

  • What do I want to achieve in the next 5 years? Where do I see myself?

  • What kind of career would I have?

  • What would I do with my free time?

  • What kind of hobbies would I have?

  • How would my relationships look?

  • How would my health look?

  • How would my spiritual life look?

  • Where would my personal development take place?

  • What would my dream vacation look like?

  • What would my dream home look like?

  • What are the top 10 things on my bucket list?

  • What are my top (5-7) goals in life?

  • What would my ideal life look like once I achieve those goals?

Step 3: Start Collecting Vision Board Ideas

Step 4: Look For a Base

A vision board can be made in a variety of ways. First, decide whether you want to make a physical vision board or a digital one.

For a physical board, you can use any flat surface as your base (like your room door or an empty wall). But I would suggest investing in a corkboard or a metal wall grid. As it makes changing the collage style easy.

If you keep a daily journal, you can make a vision board on the first page of your journal. So you can see it every time you open your journal.

Alternatively, if you don't have time to create a physical board, you can make a digital vision board on your phone or laptop and keep it as your background. You can make it on any graphic designing software or a free online editing tool like Canva.

Step 5: Gather Your Vision Board Supplies

Add images that align with your goals, such as landscapes, cheerful and happy faces, people working out, etc.

Aside from these pictures, include some empowering words, short quotes, or affirmations to bring it all together.

Try different layouts to make it as aesthetic as possible before pinning or gluing. And don't stop until the vision board accurately represents your dream life!

You can, however, make changes to your board if you have a change of heart.
